The 2024 Mainlands Invitational Tournament, held from July 13th to July 15th at the Selwyn Sports Centre in Rolleston, was a resounding success, bringing together 50 teams from across the South Island to compete in the U16 and U19 age groups. Among these, the Canterbury Basketball Association made a significant impact with an impressive 14 teams, featuring numerous current and former players and coaches from the Pioneer Basketball Club.

“Having such a strong representation from Canterbury and Pioneer Basketball Club is a testament to the hard work and dedication of our players and coaches,” said Matt Riches, Senior Club Development Officer. “The level of competition was fierce, but our teams displayed exceptional skill and sportsmanship.”

The tournament saw Canterbury teams achieving commendable results across all age groups and pools. Riches highlighted the importance of such events in developing young talent and fostering a competitive spirit. “These tournaments are crucial for the growth of our players. They provide invaluable experience and the opportunity to compete against some of the best talents in the region.”
