Pioneer referees are well supported, we ease trainee referees into the game through shadowing, learning and plenty of opportunities for feedback. When referees are more confident we increase their challenge. One of the highlights for our referee community is the connections they make, spending time with each other off the court and the yummy snacks we offer help to build a huge referee community.
Thanks to proactive volunteers and supportive supporters our referees are supported and our competitions are safe and enjoyable places to learn how to referee.
Here is a structure we use to help us clarify the pathways for referees at Pioneer.
And here is the Referee assessment sheets that we use to provide feedback to referees and ensure we are all aligned in the same development pathway.
These structures and assessments are used as a guide. Not all referees come through the same pathway, these documents highlight the path for the majority of referees. Talk to staff about options.
TWO NEW REFEREE PROGRAMS!
‘Return to the whistle’ and ‘Pick up a Whistle’ are two new programs we want you to get involved in!
Basketball is an increasingly popular sport and it’s vital that we help keep the game safe, fun and fair. That is where you come in!
We are looking to increase the Pioneer referee whānau and need as many adults, passionate rangitahi and players to pick up a whistle and give it a go…. and for those of you with prior experience behind the whistle, we want to empower you to pick it back up!
Our Pilot referee development programs are designed to be fun, encouraging and get you comfortable being uncomfortable on the court. We have Legendary referee/referee trainer, Karin Berrysmith leading the way with these courses and with 5 referee trainers within our club structure, you’ll be very well supported on your journey!
If you have any questions, please email Alice!
