Pioneer Basketball Club
Pioneer Basketball Club (PBC) was founded in 2000 by Paula Wilkinson, who continues to serve as the club’s patron. PBC provides a wide range of basketball opportunities for individuals in the South Christchurch area and beyond.
Originally a volunteer-run organization, PBC began with Paula managing teams and competitions at Pioneer Stadium as early as 1986. It wasn’t until 2012 that the club hired its first paid staff member.
Today, Pioneer Basketball Club has grown to become larger than many regional associations in New Zealand, offering more basketball opportunities than ever before to the local community.
Basketball Whānau
Our club culture invites members to become part of our basketball whānau.
We achieve this by acting, speaking and modelling our 4 core values: Whanaungatanga, Manaakitanga, Pono, Hiranga.
Everyone, from staff, players, volunteers and spectators are all expected and do hold our values at the centre of what we do when we enter the gym.
We have individuals and whanau within our club who have been with us for years, some even for decades.
Basketball for all
Pioneer Basketball club welcomes everyone in our wider community to participate and enjoy being active in a safe and inclusive environment.
ALL junior programs and most senior programs have adaptive rules, equipment and spaces to limit barriers to participation.
We have programs to suit all members in our community, the trick is knowing which one suits you!
