Each year, Pioneer Basketball Club selects teams to compete in the Canterbury Basketball Association (CBA) Winter Club Competition. These teams are open to both Tāne | Male and Wahine | Females aged 13U and above, providing an opportunity for players of various age groups to participate in a competitive basketball environment.
Each team is made up of up to 10 players, along with one to two volunteer coaches and a volunteer manager. The teams play on Rāhoroi | Saturdays and Rātapu | Sundays across different gyms in Christchurch, with the exception of Tāne and Wahine Midweek teams, who compete on Rāapa | Wednesday nights.
New details for 2026: ALL grade except for Midweek and Div 1 will now play on a Saturday
Games follow a 40-minute stop clock format (4x 10-minute quarters). Teams will also have access to one training session per week at a local gym. For 2026, younger teams will have shorter, combined training sessions within their age groups to reduce costs and promote coach collaboration. Pioneer Basketball Club provides uniforms for all teams, and players in the 20U grades and below are required to wear mouthguards during games.
Information for the 2026 winter club season will be updated on here when it is confirmed.
